Manchester

As I described in my previous blog post about Liverpool, in 2010 I experienced my first solo trip. Even though Manchester is a nice city, I wasn’t loving it. Manchester made me decide to travel straight to Edinburgh to meet up with my friends instead of continuing the solo travel experience.

The city itself is quite pretty, but I wasn’t in the mood to really go sightseeing here.

Old Trafford

Old Trafford is of course one of the main sights of the city. Old Trafford is the name of the stadium (and museum) of the Manchester United Football Club. I loved both the tour and the museum.

I learned a lot at the museum because I didn’t know about the plane crash. The sad, and uplifting messages made me cry a bit. The club has been through so much and now they have climbed up all the way to the top (with the help of a lot of funding and money which is why I don’t really support the club).

By far my favourite tour guide in the world!

Imperial War Museum North

My second favourite sight in Manchester was the Imperial War Museum North, which is a museum with pretty and sometimes touching art. Worth a visit when you’re in the neighbourhood.

Conclusion

There is nothing wrong with Manchester. I didn’t get to experience it properly because I think in my head I was rushing to get to my favourite place, Edinburgh. I didn’t give myself enough time to really enjoy it. Two days is enough to take in some of the sights, but I would love to return to experience the city more.
